2023 UN Water Conference
From March 22 to 24, New York will host the United Nations Water Conference to review the implementation of the “International Decade for Action Water for Sustainable Development”, which comprises the 2030 Agenda. The aim of the Conference is to showcase the progress that has been made since 2018 in relation to SDG 6 on water.
To date, there is no evidence to confirm to us that the Conference will be a plural space where the interests of public, community and of all living beings that water harbours or nourishes will prevail. Our monitoring and active participation in Conference planning, consultations and discussion, events among stakeholders and the list of participating organizations, point to another Conference dominated by corporate and other private interests.
That is why, whether or not we are all present in New York at the Conference, we want to raise the voices, demands and alternatives of water movements around the world to protect and guarantee access to water and the status of ecosystems around the world, urgently needed in a context of climate and social crisis.
